Trains ply from Mumbai to Goa several times a day from different terminals including Mumbai Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Lokamanya Tilak Terminus (Kurla T). Apart from the ones starting from Mumbai, through trains from Northern India to Goa also pass through the suburbs Kalyan Junction and Panvel.
The trains stop at Madgaon Station though some head beyond Goa so please check individual train routes and their stops in the timetable before booking or boarding the train.
The 750 KM (469 miles) journey is covered in approximately 11 hours and the exact time varies from train to train and time to time. Since the journey can be very scenic along the Konkan coast, it is recommended that you take an early morning train if you intend to enjoy the natural beauty and pristine scenery along the way. If you are one of those who are more interested in the destination and less on the journey itself, better take a late night train and sleep through the journey till you get off at Goa.
A word of caution: If you are visiting Goa for the first time or are not very familiar with it, do not take a train that lands you in Goa station late in the night or before dawn breaks. This way, you could avoid any unpleasant experiences.
